It's an expensive build because it's my do all machine. Personally I'm running BI on my main PC that's on 24/7. Folks running Blue Iris always seem to ignore the cost of the dedicated machine they typically use to run it successfully, even when they are writing to a NAS. The benefit of Surveillance Station is that once you've bought the licenses for the cameras you are done because they are perpetual. I am new to the synology ecosystem, mainly due to up front costs but am amazed at how polished an OS they have with SS being an added bonus I did not know existed. Someone already has one configured I just need to do it. The last part to my transition is setting up docker on my NAS for my HA.

As mentioned I looked into BI (and Zoneminder and Shinobi - both had other weaknesses) but was turned off by the subscription model.
I had a dedicated PC that I was running surveillance software, home automation and acting as a file server. So I am now fully endorsing Surveillance Station (SS) as the best option I have found.
